Till: opening, cash movements and closing

Opening float, cash in and cash out, safe drops, blind close.

Opening the till

Till session (or straight from the sales screen): count the opening float in the drawer, enter it, Open shift. Only one open till session at a time per till.

Cash movements (manager)

  • Cash in: change added to the drawer.
  • Cash out: an expense paid from the drawer.
  • Safe drop: cash taken to the safe during the day.

A reason is required; every movement is recorded in the audit log.

Closing: the blind close

  1. Count and close: count the notes and coins in the drawer.
  2. Enter the counted total. The expected amount is shown only after your count, for an honest difference.
  3. The till shows Counted, Expected and the Difference (short or over).

The difference is recorded as it is: the history is never changed to balance the till.

What the till counts

Expected = opening float + cash sales (change given deducted) + cash tips + cash repayments from customers + cash in − returns refunded in cash − cash out − safe drops ± cash payments to suppliers.

Session tips

The Shift tips block shows tips in cash (in the drawer, counted in the expected amount) and by card (not in the drawer), broken down by cashier (the one who took the sale). The till does not share tips among the team: do it as usual from these figures. The Daily report and the café reports show them separately, outside turnover; the Tips export lists every tip and every cancellation.

The trading day

The till's trading day follows the shop's local time (Africa/Casablanca time zone, including the Ramadan clock changes). The Daily report gives sales, VAT by rate and payments taken.
